In SAP NetWeaver Portal, enterprise workspaces 1.0, the certification scenario for workspace integration was extended beyond the testing of the individual module and iView to include criteria for the whole business content package. The workspaces empower to combine content and applications into a single online work environment that is customized to their needs.
The initial and prime goal of Enterprise Workspaces is to enable quick and easy re-combination of existing corporate assets, with emphasis on structured content such as reports or applications.
The certification now also verifies the structure and the deployment of a Business content Package developed by an Independent Software Vendor (ISV).
Enterprise Workspaces provide a flexible, intuitive environment to compose content, enabling enterprise end users to integrate and run structured and unstructured assets using a self-service approach:
- Users can add content based on their individual needs and structure it using pages.
- Users can share content using governance mechanisms within a team.
Enterprise workspace is a virtual working area in which enterprise users can create and share content and applications. A workspace is organized into pages.
A Business Content Package can contain
- iViews: UI components that integrate 3rd-party products to SAP EP
- Modules: Represent an application running "in a window on the screen"
- Workspace templates: Personal Workspaces for individual use and Shared Workspaces to share live data
iViews
- Are an SAP proprietary technology that is analogous to a portal
- Can be developed using different development platforms where SAP provides tools support
Modules
- Are content items, such as iViews or applications that can be used in a workspace environment
- Pproperties can be configured
- Work in harmony with the portal processes (Initial Content, Transport, ...)
- Can be composed into pages.
** A valid SAP Application Developer User License is required for building business content for certification
Benefits
- Empowerment: LOB and end user self-service for individual and shared use
- Common Storyboard: Transactional and analytical content of both SAP and non-SAP
- Modules: open framework & community sharing
- End User flexibility:
- End users can change parameters of modules at runtime
- End users can select modules and structure them on pages
- End users can create their individual area in the portal or work in a shared workspace
